17th International Symposium for Information Science
Sustainable Information - Information for Sustainability
07.-09. November 2023
Chur, Switzerland
Sustainable Information – Information for Sustainability
Information Science in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG) addresses with its 17 goals the urge to take substantial collaborative steps for a sustainable future before it is to late.
Information science as an inter-disciplinary research field can play an important part in solving the SDG’s information, knowledge and infrastructure issues.
Here are a few examples:
-> Information as a requirement for development, equality and innovation (SDG 4 & 9)
-> Open data, ease of access to information and knowledge (SDG 1 & 9)
-> Libraries, archives and museums as low threshold learning places and community builders (SDG 4, 11, 17)
-> Green libraries as blueprints for sustainable institutions (SDG 6, 7, 12, 13)
-> ICT infrastructure in developing countries (SDG 1, 4, 8)
-> Measuring and tracking the SDG goals with the help of data analysis and visualizations (all goals)
For the ISI 23, we are looking forward to contributions to the above and further topics addressing the SDG.
We also invite a discussion about the chances and challenges in the field of information science reaching these sustainable development goals.
